New Mailing Lists

Stephano Cetola

I've added two mailing lists in hopes of making better use of Groups.io. Several community members have commented to me that having 1 mailing list (devel) for all conversations (and patch review) doesn't take advantage of the Groups.io system and I agree. I met with the stewards and they agreed that this change was acceptable.

There is now a list specifically for RFCs:

https://edk2.groups.io/g/rfc

Please cross post on the devel mailing list by adding `devel at edk2.groups.io` to the CC field of the email. This way your RFC will get the widest distribution.

Also, I've added a general discussion list:

https://edk2.groups.io/g/discuss

As we see new developers and users we want to be sure they have a place to ask questions or make comments that are not development related.

Questions and comments are welcome.

Cheers,
Stephano

(answering on announce@ as my understanding is that this is acceptable
and even recommended, or now)

I received an automated email from groups.io about discuss@: "Subgroup
discuss@edk2.groups.io has been created". It states that discuss@ is a
subgroup of devel@. Does that mean that all emails sent to discuss@ are
automatically reflected to devel@ too?

(I'm trying to gauge whether I should subscribe to discuss@ in addition
to my current devel@ subscription.)

Thanks!

announce@ and bugs@ are also sub-groups of devel@ and I don't think
emails sent to those have been getting reflected to devel@ ?

Yes, that's correct.

No, it does not. I had to pick a "parent group", so I chose devel at the time.

Also, I think you got that email because you're a moderator. Sorry for the noise. Let me know if you're getting bombarded with emails as a moderator.

For those who aren't really interested in general discussion, rest assured that I'll forward any emails that I feel warrant devel discussion to that mailing list.

Also, I've not seen any settings that allow automagic reflection, so it is up to us as a community if we feel that cross posting is wise. I think that most RFCs will want to cross post to the devel list, hence the note about that.

Cheers,
Stephano

Yes, this is correct. I had to pick a group to be the "parent group". I chose devel as it seemed like as good a choice as any. It also saves us from having a "main" group, which is confusing.

Also, for those interested, I am in the process of moving bugs over to groups.io soon. More on that shortly.

Cheers,
Stephano

No, it's fine; I appreciate the insight the meta-emails give me.
